David W. Potts, J.D. has served as vice president and general counsel for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League. This experience taught him to fashion creative and strategic approaches to the practice of law. Namely, it has given him the ability to ameliorate legal disputes concerning significant financial assets from the point of view of a business executive and general counsel, offering solutions that other attorneys may not think about.
He also was involved in the negotiations with the Pontiac Stadium Authority on issues ranging from leases, interpreting agreements, and construction of the new Detroit Lions’ facilities.

Potts, J.D., PLLC, a specialized law firm practicing in divorce, divorce litigation and family law cases. He is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association and served as vice chairperson, the In-House Counsel Committee, and was past-chair of the Public Relations Committee. He attended Hillsdale College, Eastern Michigan University and obtained his law degree from Wayne State University Law School.
David is a Master of the Oakland County Bar Association’s Inn of Court, which further emphasizes his commitment to trial advocacy and the skill and determination needed to prepare a case to go to trial if necessary to secure the best outcome possible.

For 6 years, Dave Potts served as Oakland County Commissioner and represented the cities of Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township and part of Troy. He was reelected for three terms, starting in January 2007. His term expires January of 2013.
He served as Chair of the Planning and Building Committee, Chair of the Finance Committee, and Chair of the General Government Committee. As an economist and attorney, his interests were particularly related to finance and the fiscal and the economic condition of Oakland County.
He is a past board member of the Oakland County Legal Aid Society, and is an American Heart Association consultant because of prior services to the AHA.
He has served as Chairman, Board Member and Executive Committee member of the American Heart Association of Metropolitan Detroit. David also has served as a Director of the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan and The Community House in Birmingham, Michigan. He was a Council Member of the President’s Council on White House Fellows and is co-host of the popular television show Eye on Oakland.
He is a member of Business Networking International, The Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce, The Oakland County Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan.
David enjoys spending time with his family and his grandchildren. His wife is the Honorable Wendy Potts, an Oakland County Circuit Court judge.
